Layout Update #4

Flett Tunnel creates a scene.

The first signs of scenery have sprung up on the N scale layout! Laurie stopped by the club to install the scene at Flett tunnel. There is still much to do, of course, but this should whet the whistle of the members as they come into the club. Nicely done, Laurie!

Layout Update #3

A benchmark of benchwork.

Chris and Greg have added more benchwork to the second level of the N layout. The "signature scene" of this layout will be in the window; viewers from the hallway will see trains running through the detailed interior of Flett Tunnel below and the Blende River Viaduct (aka Pass Lake Trestle) rising high above it. A dramatic scene that will greet members and visitors alike as they enter the club!

Member Project Feature #1

Michael Witiw's Juneco cabooses...cabeese...

Michael is a newer member of the club who is an excellent modeller and kindly provided the following information on his Juneco caboose project.

“Cabooses are being lettered and painted as the white leaf used during the 1944 to 1954 scheme. I have been using Tru-color paints TCP-032 CN Orange as the Morency Orange, TCP-168 Iron Oxide as mineral brown.

“I used Athearn stanchions that I cut for the roof grab iron supports. I did try plastic ones from Tichy Train Group but I found them way too fragile.”

Thanks, Michael! We look forward to seeing more of your projects.

Layout Update #2

The race is on. Slowly and methodically.

The guys have been busy! There’s a bit of a race on to see who completes their helix first. Will it be the N or HO guys? The second level of the N layout is coming along and the peninsula has been added to the HO layout. Here are some photos taken today:

Member Layout Feature #1

The Credit Valley Railway c.1900 in N scale.

Layout features are a great way to showcase the diverse talents and visions of our club members. Will Annand is new to the club and to Thunder Bay, and brings his knowledge of the history of the Credit Valley Railway to life in his N scale layout based in the early 1900s. Layout Update #1

Our new home! (And new space on the web!)

Since taking possession of our new space in March this year, we’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. Here are a handful of photos from our recent work night.

Scott & Peter lay track on the helix.

Brian and The Daves cut and lay foam in the HO benchwork.

Through the window into the N scale room, Greg and Chris complete the upper deck.
